Becoming a #FoodHero on World Food Day 2020
Friday, 16 October 2020 is World Food Day, dedicated to addressing the persistent inequalities and inefficiencies that have hindered our food systems, economies, and social support structures. Around a quarter of the world’s population remain vulnerable, without access to reliable and nutritious food sources.
Be a #FoodHero; small actions help address the inequalities with food resources
This first comes with the realisation that everyone contributes to the sustainability of the food system. A sustainable food system means long-term food security for more people. Even though you may be spoilt for choice when it comes to the diversity of food products, your consumer habits influence the sustainability of our agricultural systems.
BiobiN South Africa recommends that you start with these commitments:
- I will commit to composting my food waste.
- I will support those retailers and shops that divert and compost their food waste.
- I will support retail, shops, and restaurants that source produce locally from sustainable sources.
- I will encourage family and friends to do the same.
