Wednesday, 22 April 2020 is World Earth day and in recognition of this day devoted to the health of the environment, BiobiN South Africa highlights three ways you can become a remote environmentalist:
Find value in your food waste. No part of our food should be going to landfill. The value of food waste is a contribution to high-quality compost. South Africa’s agricultural sector relies on the quality of soil to produce that is of a good quality. BiobiN is designed specifically to convert large volumes of food waste into high-grade compost.
Turn off for an hour. While everyone is in lockdown, household electricity consumption is seeing an increase. We need to remember that most of South Africa’s power supply is sourced from coal. The combustion of coal to produce our electricity significantly contributes to carbon emissions and poor air quality.
Digital mobilization. While we may be apart during this time, we are all connected through the power of digital communication. The theme for Earth day 2020 is to mobilize the global community to share stories, lessons and call to actions to protect the environment. Between composting your food waste and turning your lights off for an hour, time to share your initiatives on what you are doing to divert from landfill.
